As a United States senator from Massachusetts, Elizabeth Warren is earning $174,000 a year. The least she could do is show up for work.

Instead, Senator Warren’s recent absenteeism has given us a new twist on what Samuel Adams — of whom I’m a biographer — might have recognized as a twist on taxation without representation. If Mrs. Warren doesn’t bother to vote, her constituents, including me, are effectively deprived of a say in the Senate.
