BRISTOL, England — One of the first gay couples to celebrate a civil partnership in Britain have announced that they plan to dissolve their union.
Darryl Bullock, 42, and Mark Godfrey, 32, could be the first same-sex couple to terminate a partnership. The pair exchanged vows at The Guildhall, Bath, at 8 a.m. on December 21 last year, dressed in matching suits and red ties.
However, their three-year relationship faded, and Mr. Godfrey, a health care assistant, has moved out of the flat that they shared in Bristol.
“We were really proud to be one of the first couples to have the service,” a Mr. Bullock, who is a freelance writer, said.
“But we didn’t do it to make the news or just to be first. We were completely committed, but things change in any relationship. We have both moved on. We are lucky there is no property or kids involved.”
Dissolution, the term used to describe the termination of a civil partnership, is a procedure similar to divorce. To obtain dissolution, couples must have been in a partnership for more than a year.
