TALKING TRAVEL Curator Yinka Shonibare conducts a panel discussion on transportation and its influence on creating a global cultural elite. The panelists are the director of the Studio Museum in Harlem, Thelma Golden; the curatorial director at Cooper-Hewitt, Barbara Bloemink, and a research associate at the Urban Institute, Randy Capp.They discuss travel for pleasure and business, how artists and designers address travel, and the Hewitt sisters’ European “grand tours,” which began the museum’s collection. The talk is followed by a reception and a viewing of “Yinka Shonibare Selects: Works From the Permanent Collection.” Tonight, 6:30 p.m., Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, Fifth Avenue at 91st Street, 212-849-8380, $15 general, $10 seniors and students, free for members, reservations requested.
