Biden May Tout a ‘Great American Comeback’ on Jobs, but Americans Born Here Are Not the Ones Winning

The numbers are sparking debate about whether the immigrant-labor growth signals a vibrant economy or the displacement of American-born employees.

“Across the country, the American people are writing the greatest comeback story never told,” President Biden said recently of added jobs since he took office. 

A less-publicized aspect, however, is that nearly all of recent job growth has been by the foreign-born. Jobs held by native-born Americans decreased by nearly half a million between January and February of this year, while jobs held by foreign-born Americans (both legal and illegal immigrants) spiked to 1.16 million.
