President Bush seems destined to leave office with the lowest public-approval rating of any president since Richard Nixon. With his numbers hovering in the low 30s, Mr. Bush is an extremely unpopular president nationally and among almost any group or subgroup polled. The notable exception to this pattern has long been Mr. Bush’s support among white southerners. But now even that last pillar of the president’s support looks to be wobbling. The news couldn’t be much more grim for the Republican Party’s 2008 hopefuls.
