Police have arrested a man in connection with a hit-and-run incident on Saturday that left a 9-year-old girl critically wounded in Brooklyn.

According to police, Jerry Coleman, 41, was behind the wheel of a tan Nissan Maxima on Saturday night when the car struck the young girl, who was crossing Rockaway Avenue at Glenmore Avenue. The victim was rushed to Brookdale Hospital, where she is listed in critical condition. Police found Mr. Coleman’s vehicle abandoned near the scene shortly afterward and arrested him the next night in Brooklyn.

Mr. Coleman is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident and with being an unlicensed operator. Police say the investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
