A sightseeing cable car system has gotten stuck above the Bronx Zoo, and firefighters have been rescuing dozens of passengers.

A zoo spokeswoman Patti Calabrese, says the Skyfari broke down on its aerial route around 5:30 p.m. today.

Firefighters say up to 40 people were stranded aloft but they don’t know how many cable cars got stuck.

The Skyfari offers visitors a bird’s-eye view of the celebrated zoo and its surroundings. The zoo’s Web site says the route passes over habitats that house baboons and other animals.
