NEWARK, N.J. — A former FBI intelligence analyst who worked under two vice presidents was sentenced yesterday to 10 years for passing secret American documents in an effort to topple the Philippine government.
Leandro Aragoncillo addressed the court before the sentence, and apologized, asserting that he acted to help bring Filipino people out of poverty.
“I never intended to cause harm or injury to the United States, its government or its people,” he said. Prosecutors and U.S. District Judge William Walls agreed that Aragoncillo did not mean to hurt the nation, but said his “nefarious” actions caused harm.
