WASHINGTON — Ten of the 13 members of New York City’s congressional delegation voted in favor of a free trade agreement with Peru, which the House approved yesterday, 285-132.
The three local lawmakers voting against the pact were Democratic Reps. Nydia Velazquez of Queens, Jose Serrano of the Bronx, and Jerrold Nadler, whose district includes parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Those supporting the agreement included the dean of the state delegation and the chairman of the committee with jurisdiction over trade, Rep. Charles Rangel of Harlem. The deal now moves to the Senate. Senator Clinton said last night she would support the deal, and Senator Schumer is expected to as well.
The other New York lawmakers voting “yes” were: Rep. Anthony Weiner, Rep. Edolphus Towns; Rep. Carolyn Maloney; Rep. Joseph Crowley; Rep. Gregory Meeks; Rep. Eliot Engel; Rep. Gary Ackerman; Rep. Yvette Clarke; and the delegation’s lone Republican, Rep. Vito Fossella.
