LIGHTING THE WAY The former official archaeologist of Jerusalem and the chairman of the scientific advisory board of the Bible Lands Museum, Dan Bahat, lectures on “The Jerusalem of the Maccabees.” He will discuss how the city might have looked when Chanukah was established to commemorate the recapturing of the Temple of Jerusalem from the Greeks (Saturday, 2 p.m., 212-408-1251, registration requested). The talk is in conjunction with an exhibit of ancient oil lamps, “Let There Be Light.” It features lamps of Jewish, Christian, Samaritan, Roman, and Islamic origin, dating as far back to the third millennium B.C.E. CELEBRATING ACTIVISM A panel and conversation, “Force of Nature: The Art and Activism of Frank Moore,” celebrates the life of the late New Yorkbased painter who was an advocate for people with HIV and AIDS. The panelists include a sculptor who worked as Mr. Moore’s studio assistant, Michael Combs, and a director emeritus of Visual AIDS, an organization that helps artists living with HIV, Nick Debs. Tuesday, 7-9 p.m., School of Visual Arts, 209 E. 23rd St., between Second and Third avenues, third-floor amphitheater, 212-592-2062, $10 suggested donation, SVA students free.
