FAVELA FEST Brazilian Independence Day is celebrated with a preview screening of “Favela Rising,” a new documentary about Rio de Janeiro’s Afro-Reggae movement. The reception also features live music and food. Friday, 6 p.m. reception, 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. screenings, Museum of the Moving Image, 35th Avenue at 36th Street, Astoria, Queens, 718-784-0077, $10 general, $7.50 seniors and students, $5 for children 5-18, free for museum members.
