Literary giant Norman Mailer has been hospitalized after having surgery.

His daughter-in-law, Salina (Suh LEE Nuh) Mailer, says the 84-year-old author has undergone surgery at Manhattan’s Mount Sinai Hospital to remove some scar tissue from around his lung. She doesn’t recall the exact date of the operation, but says he is progressing.

“He’s been getting better every time I see him,” she said.

Mr. Mailer has been writing for decades, starting with “The Naked and the Dead” in 1948. His work, “The Castle in the Forest,” was published earlier this year.
