Jose Palacios, 43, fell from scaffolding near the top floor of the 13-story building at 525 Clinton Ave. in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn, police officials said. A second construction worker, who was not identified, was seriously injured after falling onto a 10th floor ledge of the building, police said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that high winds may have caused the scaffolding to collapse, a spokeswoman for the New York City Department of Buildings, Kate Lindquist, said. The buildings department this morning alerted building owners and contractors across the city to secure their buildings because of predicted wind gusts of up to 50 mph.
The two construction workers, who worked for a sub-contractor, Bell Tower Enterprises, were performing stucko work on the roof of the building when the scaffolding collapsed, Ms. Lindquist said.
