A woman crossing an intersection in Greenwich Village was hit and killed by a truck that investigators believe was driven by an inebriated driver.
The 28-year-old victim, who was identified by police officials as Hope Miller, 28, of Queens, was hit by the truck at about 7:15 a.m. at the intersection of Houston Street and Sixth Avenue, police officials said.
When police arrived, the victim was rushed to St. Vincent's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said. The driver of the vehicle, Roger Smiley, 48, of Brooklyn, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs, and resisting arrest.
Police officials said they believed Mr. Smile, who resisted arrest, had been using cocaine. He hit Miller as he ran a red light as he was fleeing the scene of another minor accident.
