A Queens man was caught selling counterfeit costumes of children's television characters, having been told they were for the cast of a pornographic film, the Queens district attorneys office said.
Julio Quevedo, 43, was nabbed in a sting operation set up by the Queens district attorneys office, where the investigators posed as adult filmmakers.
After selling a $250 Bob the Builder costume to an investigator, Mr. Quevedo led officials to his self-storage unit in the Jamaica section of Queens, the district attorneys office said. The facility was filled with dozens of other counterfeit outfits including: Dora the Explorer, Scooby Doo, and Barney, the district attorneys office said.
Mr. Quevedo was arraigned on Saturday for trademark counterfeiting in the second degree at Queens Criminal Court, the district attorneys office said. If convicted he faces up to four years in prison.
A phone message to Mr. Quevedo's lawyer, Michael Paul, wasn't returned.
