The Archdiocese of New York yesterday said it was "delighted" by the news of New York City's first papal visit since 1995. Pope Benedict XVI plans to address the United Nations sometime next year, Vatican sources said.
"We look forward to welcoming him, and await details about his visit," a spokesman for the Archdiocese, Joseph Zwilling, said.
While in Rome last week, Edward Cardinal Egan told the pope that New York's faithful would be praying that his forthcoming visit "will be crowned with every grace and blessing," Mr. Zwilling said.
