Senator John McCain visited New York City yesterday ahead of the official launch of his White House campaign.
The senator appeared for his ninth time as a guest on the comedy program, "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart."
Initially expected to become the Republican front-runner, Mr. McCain has seen his poll and fundraising figures lag behind those of his competitors in the GOP.
According to the latest numbers, Mr. McCain has raised $13,087,559, trailing Rudy Giuliani, who has raised $16,623,410, and Mitt Romney, who has raised $23,434,634.
A poll by ABC News/Washington Post on April 15 showed the senator trailing Mr. Giuliani by 12 points.
Mr. McCain also yesterday spoke at a dinner hosted by Co-Operation Ireland, a nonprofit group that seeks peace-building in Ireland; attended a financial event with supporters, and met with law enforcement leaders, a spokesman for Mr. McCain, Daniel Diaz, said.
The senator is scheduled to travel today to New Hampshire, a perennial swing state with an early primary.
