The president of the New York Jets, Jay Cross, has been selected by the Related Companies to oversee development of the rail yards on Manhattan's West Side.
Mr. Cross was a chief proponent of the failed campaign to build a stadium for the Jets on the 26-acre site three years ago. "I am extremely pleased to have Jay join our executive team," the chairman and CEO of Related Companies, Stephen Ross, said in a statement. "Jay's extraordinary technical knowledge of this challenging site and his architectural and engineering training will be a great asset in realizing the historical development of The Hudson Yards."
Mr. Cross has played key roles in planning the New Meadowlands Stadium for the Jets and Giants in New Jersey, the Miami Heat's AmericanAirlines Arena, and the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, which is home to the Raptors and Maple Leafs. He will resign as president of the Jets, a position he has held since 2000.
