Mexico's opposition Party of the Democratic Revolution elected an ally of former presidential candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Alejandro Encinas, as its new leader, according to preliminary results. Mr. Encinas, a former mayor of Mexico City, won 49.4% of the vote, while opponent Jesus Ortega Martinez won 44.6%, the party's Electoral Committee said, citing polling group Consulta Mitofsky, which had access to the first 8% of votes counted. The president of Consulta Mitofsky, Roy Campos, said in an interview that Mr. Encinas would remain in the lead after the rest of the votes were counted. The party is likely to harden opposition under Mr. Encinas to legislation proposed by the National Action Party.
