Facing the Wagner Question

Submitted by Einat, Jan 29, 2007 14:45

It is appropriate and commendable for the orchestra of the Jewish state to show sensitivity to the feelings of a generation that has suffered enough, and their descendants. Why must they sit at home silently while their countrymen entertain themselves listening to the anthems and inspiration of the culture that brutally murdered their families? I would think the musicians and music lovers associated with the IPO, whose artistic souls are so stirred by the "beauty" of Wagner's music, would be all the more sensitive to the dreadful consequences of his sentiments. There are plenty of other orchestras to play Wagner - it's ok if one doesn't.
