Similar articles appearing in California news (San Francisco, Monterey, Contra Costa) include the fact that these same defendents were charged with this crime in 1974, but the charges were dropped when police admitted that their confessions had been extracted through the use of torture by New Orleans police. Outside of Northern California, that very important detail seems to have been omitted from all other news sources' accounts.
