To say there was no controversy about drafting Manning over Leaf is untrue. Leaf was considered the better talent. He had a stronger arm, more mobility and more upside. Many critics, including Mel Kiper Jr., thought Peyton would have limited potential, that he peaked more in college and wouldn't grow into the role. Those thoughts were reinforced when Peyton struggled throughout the preseason and Leaf surged. Once the regular season started, however, it was obvious that the Colts made the right decision. The defining moment was when Leaf exploded on a reporter.
