In a separate, less ballyhooed press release the Archdiocese revealed its plan to close Our Lady of Vilnius on Broome Street off of Varick, near the mouth of the Holland Tunnel. If the Archdiocese is not planning to derive a profit from the real estate, I don't see how the closure of this church would serve the stated goal of making resources, including priests, available to the growing northern Archdiocese. The priest is not a diocesan priest and the parish is solvent and self -sustaining. They don't gain a priest and they don't save money. What's left, if not the income producing potential of the real estate.
