It makes no difference WHERE mail is processed, only where it is delivered. Postal unions have been fighting (and losing) to keep consolidations from going through. During initial days of a consolidation some delays are possible and are quickly worked out. The reason for consolidation is the huge drop in 1st class letter volume and the money it generated. The reasons unions fight by mostly untrue scare tactics is because they do not want to be transferred to anothe office. No one loses their job, they just go where thee is work. The fight is driven by selfish employees as most customers will never notice a difference.
