The only way ordinary Americans can effectively oppose the President's preposterous idea of a surge of troops to Baghdad is if the Democratic leaders of Congress unite, and stay united, to end this pointless war and bring the troops home. Otherwise we'll be reading about more unnecessay deaths of American soldiers and Iraquis long into the future. Think about them, our young people in uniform. This small group of inept and indecent men in Washington has betrayed them for nearly four years, by sending them to their death in a rash and stupid plot to rope up oil interests with the public outcry against 9-11. They thought nobody would notice, or if they did, they'd go along with the sheer magnitude of the spending and troop deployment. We cannot and will not prevail in a civil war halfway around the world. We need to acknowledge our mistake, and withdraw. There is no way out in Iraq.
Worse, staying has already positioned troops to shift the theater to Iran, where the same Administration leaders have been sabre-rattling and getting ready for a wider war for several years.
America needs to take care of America, and stop making enemies and wasting its resources in an endless aggression to show who's the biggest, baddest empire in history.
