So ... if you make relatively straightforward criticisms of Israel's treatment of Palestinians in the Occupied Territories (which is all Carter does in his book -- he makes no such criticisms about treatment of Arabs within Israel proper), you've now become a partisan for the Palestinians? You've necessarily lost all objectivity and impartiality?

Puh-leeze. Being critical of a system that (as Carter's title suggests) has some elements of apartheid isn't anti-Israel, it's pro-Israel (because it calls for Israel to live up to its ideals as a democracy).

The board members' resignation just proves what Carter has been saying all along (and in the book): There is virtually no mainstream forum in the US for even mild criticisms of Israeli policy.

I now admire Carter even more for taking what he must have known would be a risky and unpopular stand and sticking to his guns in the face of hysterical criticism.
