Caesar Is Dead, Rome Carries On

Meticulously researched right down to the grafitti on the walls, ROME is a knockout. Written with wit and intelligence it is head and soldiers above anything else on Television. In the first episode of Season One, an annoyed Centurian crucifies a German soldier for not telling where Caesar's standard has been taken. When the German confesses from his cross, the Centurian annoyingly orders, 'Alright, alright, take him down.' Priceless dialogue like this is everywhere. And Polly Walker is priceless as a manipulative upper-class hostess, not to mention mother of Octavian, a kind of enfant savant, on his way up the greasy poll.

Without a doubt, the best thing on the tube. Pity it doesn't have the ratings of the WWF.
