A New Political ‘Vision' for Israel

Mr. Amnon Rubenstein refers, somewhat critically, to a document which he quotes as stating, inter alia, that (upon the establishment of the State of Israel) "Palestinians 'were forced to acquire Israeli citizenship.' "

I don't recall all of the events of the period, but I do recall that the United Nations partition resolution provided for Arabs residing in the area of the Jewish State to opt for citizenship in the Arab State. So, in addition to all the other points he made in his essay, perhaps Mr. Rubenstein could have noted that the statement that Palestinians "were forced to acquire Israeli citizenship" is flat-out wrong.

If Arabs currently residing in Israel do not feel that they are getting a fair deal in Israel, perhaps they should get a renewed option to acquire citizenship in (and paid transportation to) an Arab state more to their liking.
