America's Anti-Intellectual Threat

Submitted by Michael Adler, Sep 23, 2008 10:59

Mr. Sachs's column once again demonstrates why it is that the vast majority of us have little to no respect for the general academia at large. Aside from the accusations of the administration without any evidence to back it up, it is the total disregard as well as active insulting of those who beg to differ with his point of view. Non athiests as well as human induced global warming skeptics are his target on this occasion. I wonder if Mr. Sachs would be up to a debate with Dr. Roy Spencer, Dr. WIlliam Gray, or Dr. RIchard Linzen to name a few of the internationally renowned climatologists (not economists) who beg to differ with him. It is typical to just say everyone else is dumb & thats why many people like Sarah Palin & her simplicity. To compare her with religious nuts in the Middle East is once again typical of people like Mr. Sachs. To suggest that the Europeans, with their speed to appease religious nuts since they are also like him- atheistic just underscores the problem the next administration will face in heading off real dangers such as nuclear weapons in the hands of fanatics, unlike ones that we are powerless to prevent ie. climate change. As a final point, I am a physician & read plenty of peer reviewed articles. From a statistics point of view, if someone submitted a study where the margin of error exceeded total projection of variation (like every climate study where margin of error is greater than total temperature variation) it would not even pass the laughing stage at the New England Journal of Medicine.
