Reagan Plight Had Little Effect on Alzheimer's Funds

Submitted by Sandra Laughbaum, Jan 6, 2007 11:22

Since my husband's death in l996 from early onset "Alzheimer's" I try to support funding for research and help for the caregivers of Alzheimer's. I think it is unfair to blame the war in Iraq for the decrease in funding. I see this as a means of more bashing our president. Most Americans are receiving pleas daily from various "help groups". Little gifts such as address labels and so forth are ways of putting givers on guilt trips to insure a donation and it works. I now keep a list of those I respond to and only donate once a year regardless of how many gifts I receive. I do like to support Alheimer's research, however there are several different groups under that title. I want my funds used in a responsible way, so I usually give to the local group that was much help to me when this horror happened to my family.
