Gioia Leaves NEA After Changing Debate Over Arts Funding

Ms. Taylor: It may have made for a handy lead paragraph for your story, but you're wrong. The culture wars are far from over. Witness the Bush-Palin ticket's faux "hockey mom/working class" campaign attacking Obama for being "elitist" because he uses words of more than one-syllable, and because he's (of all crimes) popular. Nope, the culture wars are what this campaign is all about, and we're playing them out in Karl Rove's sandbox. Dana was an adroit politician (some pork in every congressional district), and more power to him, but those people who don't read, and who get their news from TV and chain-letter e-mails have increased their numbers during his tenure, and they are the foot soldiers in the culture wars. Lowest Common Denominator Uber Alles.
