Ford, Saddam, and the Era of Realpolitik

Another recently deceased dictator is Pinochet -- who ordered murdered some 4 000 pro-communist Chileans and took over with US / CIA / Kissinger support. And proceeded to create the best economy in Latin America, and a democracy (after 18 years), one so strong that it can even elect a Leftist.

Pinochet was less evil than Allende and the 300% inflation Cuba-style communism he was bringing.

Saddam might have been thought of as less evil than the pro-commies he fought against. He could have created a successful Iraq had he wanted. The entire Arab should be ashamed and humiliated -- at not having a single dictator care enough about his people to create an economy able to use human cooperation to create wealth. It is arguable whether Saddam was less evil than the Iranian Khomeini, who led Iran into a low level war against the USA which is still going on.

It is good Saddam was tried, convicted, and hanged.

It would be good if trials continued for other top Baathists, and their crimes are better recorded. A Truth and Reconciliation Commission should be formed to document survivor experiences. The video that Saddam made in his show trial of conspirators (1971?) should be shown and downloaded as well.
