Bush Announces $1B Georgia Aid Package

Respected author Michael Totten in his blog disputes the sequence given in your last paragraph. Be careful not to accept Russian disinformation. It is possible that the hostilities were begun by Russian proxies and that Georgian forces advanced in the face of a Russian invasion that had already begun. The Georgian's desperate action may have prevented the Russians from over running the entire country. Not spotting the massive Russian armored columns in time to destroy the Roki tunnel and prevent this invasion was a massive intelligence failure. Both in Georgia and in the United States the reasons for this failure must be examined.
