My concern is not with the pregnancy itself. That is what it is. My concern is the desperate rush to announce that this young woman is to be wed to the father of the child. My wife and I married later in life and it has enabled us to face the ups and downs of married life with a much greater maturity than we would have experienced in our teen years or early 20's. What's the rush? Would we rather have a child who grows up with a mother that loves him or her or would we rather have a child go through the emotional anguish of a divorce by parents who rushed into a life-long commitment and who resent each other? Underage pregnancy is a concern in that young people seem to not consider the consequences of rash, spur-of-the-moment actions. However, it should not be a motivation to pile dysfunction and resentment onto a slip of judgment. The child will be born. Let it be born without a parent resenting it's existence.
