N.Y.'s HIV Infection Rate Dwarfs Rest of Country

It seems like the HIV/AIDS thing is just old news; or at least, that's the thing that comes across. I don't think people are ignorant as to how to prevent it, I think they don't care. It's a symptom of a prevalent attitude of "I can do what I want and anybody who doesn't like it, too bad." That then gets translated into a superhuman attitude of "It can't happen to me" coupled with the apathy of the situation which can then result in not getting test and then passing the disease on. People assume, "There's new treatment; big deal." "A cure is just around the corner." "Doesn't Magic Johnson test negative now?" I've heard all these arguments/excuses before. People seemed to be informed about HOW it's transmitted, but they seem to be ignorant on the issues AFTER the fact.
