As a person who has had some deafness since childhood, I applaud this development. I often must remain silent during conversations, especially when I can't see the speaker's mouth. My deafness worsened as a result of military service where many things make loud noises. I was drafted into the artillery over forty years ago which is not a good place to maintain the ability to hear. Age has worsened matters. I enjoy music but no longer can hear such pleasures as Perlman on the violin. It would be a true gift to restore my hearing. I speak only for myself and nobody else. I would love to hear my granddaughter speak. Unfortunately, she speaks at a high frequency and in a soft voice and I understand little of what she says.
