The only thing they need the Piazza San Marco to be is 15 feet higher. The entire square floods first and worst during the Aqua Alta, as anyone who's ever been to Venezia knows. And when I say flood, I mean 3-6 feet deep water. Pointless to give the square anything but high sidewalks until the new anti-flood technology is finished.
