China Bars Adoption by People Who Are Obese, Single, or Over 50

Submitted by Bethany McNabb, Jan 3, 2007 23:58

If a persons is able and willing to adopt a baby from china, why should they be turned away? They're are so many persons over the age of fifty, or nearing that age, that are healthy and capable of taking care of these younger children. Wouldn't it make more sense to let them adopt children as they are nearing retirement and are then able to stay home and take care of the children in which they adopt, whereas the younger parents or individuals are either still acomplishing their goals within their choosen careers or haven't even started yet. Are those really the grounds on which our society is allowing children to be adopted into? If the persons willing to adopt are financially stable, then why shouldn't they be allowed to adopt? It's discrimination towards the blind, and the obese. Just because someone is obese it does not mean that they will not make great parents! If you are excluding the blind, what about the dumb? I think that whoever made these regulations, seriously needs to think about this before seriously continueing on with these aligations. These 'giude lines' are rediculous and these children could be missing out on the best life that they could have ever had!
