Council Could Benefit on Rent As It Seeks Control of Board

I agree with Michael's comment above and I agree with the idea that Ms. Quinn wants to to propose to the rent guidelines board. People like Ms. Quinn and her partner who have these comfortable incomes should be reevaluated financially in order to remain in a rent stabilized apartment. The two of them combined can afford to pay the going rents.

I have been waiting for the past four years to be accepted for Section 8. I know that I am qualified however each month that I check my status with the Section 8 office I'm told I'm still on the waiting list.

What I'd like to know is why is this sort of thing allowed. That these politicians and board members incomes are not a factor considered. But they can hold down rent stabilized apartments plus they own apartment buildings themselves. Governor Patterson lives in a two bedroom rent stabilized apartment in Harlem and has a mansion in Albany, NY as well.

There is surely something wrong with the system here in NYC and the whole board needs to be restructured. I feel that at least half of that board should be made up of average working and disabled people. It would be for the greater good of the community. These apartments should be surrendered and opened up to families who need them and to help get people out of these horrible shelters.
