Hevesi Case Backfiring on Spitzer
in response to reader comment: Why tolerate corruption?

I must disagree with Mr.Schultz on certain points. Mr. Nixon was never convicted of a felony. I don't recall Mr. Clinton's behavior one that even fell under the "felony" category. Defining corruption in Albany is down right silly as most of our elected reps fall under that category morally, just not legally. My point was really that Mr. Hevesi behaved badly and irresponsibly and was arrogant and stupid, but not felonious and if he was, indict Mr. Silver and his band of merry men one of whom will probably become the next Comptroller and indeed has neither the experience nor the flair that Mr. Hevesi had.

I don't defend Mr. Hevesi....but I voted for him. Mr. Callahan had not the qualifications I felt necessary to manage a pension fund and/or manage that office. So now, who will we get??? Is our new Governor serious about doing away with corruption or will if be a momentary thing?

I cannot help but feel sorry for Mr. Hevesi. I have had very slender dealing with him but was impressed with his intelligence and speaking ability plus his record of doing a very, very good job as Comptroller. He probably wouldn't know me at all. I know the "organization" and how corrupt they are and the fact is no one is very interested. Since Mannes died it has become worse and worse and the organization runs a "tight ship" or else can Queens be run by a Congressman who isn't even here, or shouldn't be....but should be helping to represent us in Washington by getting us out of the mire of Iraq. He can't run it here and represent anyone while in Washington if he is doing his job! What is more corrupt that that? The one thing I do know about Mr. Hevesi was that the "organization" didn't appreciate his independence and he did not become one of the boys by handing out jobs and such to their minions. So, who next?
