Parking Program Would Give Preference to Locals

Submitted by Phil, Aug 7, 2008 09:47

Seems like a nice idea in theory. However, if they don't charge a fee for these parking permits then what Yassky is basically proposing is a new program, with all of its associated costs to administer, without any new funding. Does that make sense in the current fiscal climate? Also, why would we give away permits to our public streets so that those who own cars can use it to store their cars for free? These are our public streets and those of us who don't own cars don't want to be subsidizing free parking, with city-issued permit, for those who do.
