Dark Tower: A Daring Design Over Madison Square

Submitted by Joseph L Streich, Aug 6, 2008 23:39

I'm glad Mr. Gardner appreciates Rem Koolhaas' too-slender, too-tall addition to Madison Square, but as a regular visitor to Union Square, I have to report that this new building looks exceedingly ugly alongside the Metropolitan Life tower. That elegant building, which previously had the view north from Union Square all to itself must now share the skyline with a featureless monolith that exudes all the charm of an upright yardstick.
