The lack of interest in the farm system in recent years was best illustrated by the Norfolk Tides, fed up with being ignored by the Mets, choosing to terminate its 38-year relationship after the 2006 season. Consequently, the Mets have been stuck with a AAA affiliate in New Orleans, the hot-and-humid member of the Pacific Coast League.
