Stephen Beus Plays Bold

Thoughtful honest reviews like Fred Kirshnit's and one in "Fanfare May-June 2008 issue alerted me to this outstanding new pianist. His YouTube video of the Hammerklavier fugue confirmed it. I ordered his two CDs of Griffes/Scriabin and Barber/Bauer. As long as young pianists like Stephen Beus and Koji Attwood appear, American pianism is in good hands. I'm grateful to Mr. Kirschnit for his perceptive and detailed review. One story about Beethoven's alteration of his Adagio's opening is that a friend pointed out to him that each of the other movements begins with the interval of an upward fourth, whereupon he added it to the Adagio. At least ben trovato.
