This is an excellent article which shows the results of dominance by one party in this city. It matters not that we've had Republican mayors, it is the City Council that is the problem, and this stems from it being over 95% democrats. TheTammany Hall Machine lives on and it is a disgrace, but the democrats own this city, and they are owned by the unions and various other special interests groups. Nothing will change until there is a balance between the two parties, and many more citizens truly getting involved in the political/electoral process. Additionally, there is just no honor or intefrity with the majority of these people who hold office. They will rationalize their actions with very good arguments, though a good argument for a bad idea does not make the idea any good. One is to support one's district, and anything outside of it is off limits, no matter where one's constituents may frequent on a regular basis outside of the district.
