I read your column, was married to Peter Serkin when Tashi was formed and think you should understand a few things. The first is that the groups' ambient image was a reflection of the time and not, according to your critic Fred Kishnit, "an attempt to marginalize Messiaen's Catholicism in subservience to a countercultural marketing technique." It was pure innocent fun to name the group after our Tibetan Terrier, Tashi more than 35 years ago. As we know, the work of Messiaen hasn't suffered from Tibetan iconography. I think, based on the audience response, that people still love every rare opportunity to hear it. Your readers may have suffered, however, from a somewhat off-putting take on an otherwise wonderful musical reunion.
