in response to reader comment: Police are there to protect us, and so are gun laws

Ruth Cavanaugh you live in a make believe world! Remember when seconds count the police are just minutes away! So Ruth, if someone breaks into your home by all means call the police. When they arrive they will be taking pictures of your dead body because a criminal is going to do his business as quick as possible. You are sorely underestimating the mind of a predator. I read that there were twenty two children last year ages ten and under who were accidentally killed from gun use. There were also seven times that many children who drowned in bathtubs. Do we outlaw bathtubs? That I'm sure isn't going to happen! Remember if guns were totally outlawed all of your, (our) other freedoms would be hanging from a thread! Please do your homework and try to be less emotional. Guns don't kill! Along with bathtubs we should outlaw liquor, cigarettes, automobiles, aircraft or anything that could kill you. One last point. Since the Supreme Court is discussing the D.C. handgun ban it is interesting that there are no shortage of handguns with the big demand for them, making a very lucrative business for anyone dealing in illegal guns. Prohibition didn't work and neither will unresonable gun control!
