Devils Caught Between 'The Rock' and Hard Place

Submitted by Jim, Mar 16, 2008 23:24

I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Greenstein's intelligent analysis here. I'm a Devils fan who used to go to double-digit numbers of games at the Continental Arena. I've been to the new arena once, and the $32 parking (paying by credit card at home) and $65 seats got me second class status in Newark. What I got for my money was akin to a teenage rock concert (more music blasting than the sound of hockey from the 100 sections), fairly cramped seating (I'm only 5-7, too), pretty bad food (I won't go to that particular place again), but a great concourse. I'd rather have had Continental's cramped concourse but comfortable seating, and be far closer to the ice. But then again, I'm just an average fan, not a Corporate stockholder who can afford the good seats and leave them empty game in and game out. I'm really quite disappointed. This is clearly an arena for the wealthy--in Newark, no less. I wish them luck, because I still love my team, but television is the better alternative for me now.
