You give HBO viewers a heck of a lot of credit. That book, while well researched, witty, and packed with fascinating detail, is not likely to result in more than a few hundred readers to read and FINISH the book.

It's entertainment, no more and no less. Now if we want to get 100,000 people to read the book - use $100 million to pay each reader $1,000 for a complete, original book report - that's the only way it will happen!
