U.S. Bows Out of Court Fight Over PLO Funds

Since when does the financial condition of the defendents determine the correctness of a lawsuit? This is outrageous. If the American taxpayer, (also an absurd argument) is actually paying the debt, it will give the PLO food for thought, angering both those who commit terrorism, and the recipients, not to exclude the pressed taxpayer. But to be honest, where else are the plaintiffs going to get the judgement....from the PLO, PA, Saeb Erekat, Hanan Ashrawi (two Palestinian loudmouths), or Arafat's widow or Abbas himself.

This lawsuit is really one of principle..with little else to be achieved. Why the US would balk is beyond me. What about the rights of the victims and their families..are THEIR finances of any concern to the Palestinian terrorist groups? Abbas, the head of Fatah, and negotiating with Israel recently threatened violence by his people against Israel, if peace (on his terms) isn't attained. Doesn't that really say it all about their intentions towards Israel itself. Arafat also threatened violence at every stage of the Camp David negotiatons...which fell apart as we all recall, after all the proposals of peace by Israel to allow for another Arab state on 100% of the land taken by Israel after 1948.

I wonder however whether Bush's Justice Department acted more politically than anything else, in the heat of a campaign for the next President. Where does McCain and the others stand on this issue? I would like to know.
